Valentine's Day. Candy. Flowers. Dinner. Romance. Let's be real...I'm a mom of four (including a teen and an almost teen), I run a business, a household, and a school. Romance to me is just a date night with Hubby without little people interrupting every minute!
<scroll down for info on our exciting GIVEAWAY!> What is love? When I was in kindergarten, love was kissing Philip (my dream guy at that age) under the table at recess. When I was in elementary school, love was something for old people. When I was in junior high, love was that cute boy that sent a sideways smile my way. When I was in high school, love was the boy who asked me to "go out with him". And in college, love was being knocked off my feet when I first laid eyes on my future husband. We had known each other as kids and he'd been away at college for four years. When he left, he wasn't even on my radar but when he returned, he took my breath away. And still does. Love at that time meant he was my best friend and I wanted to spend the rest of my days with only him. Today, after almost 22 years of marriage, love has a whole new meaning again. We've had our share of fights and embarassing spots and shame-filled moments. And yet he chooses to love me more today than yesterday. He chooses to put my needs above his own. He chooses to provide for me and our children. And I pray he sees those things in me as well.
Love isn't a feeling, like I thought it was while I was growing up. In fact, it never was a feeling. Love is a choice and I'm so grateful, everyday, that Hubby chooses to love me.
The Bible says it this way:
- "This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the atoning sacrifice for our sins." 1 John 4:10 That He loved us.
- "For God loved the world in this way: He gave His One and Only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 Loved us enough to sacrifice his own son.
- "Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ Matthew 22:37-39 Love God & love people.
This Valentine's Day, I'm thankful that God IS love and I'm celebrating that with my newest sign:
